In the United States and Europe, both cats and dogs suffer from kidney stones.

In the U.S. alone, there are approximately 60 million cats and 53 million dogs. In Europe, there are similar numbers, except that dogs outnumber cats. Companion animal health care products total approximately $2 billion globally, of which biotechnology-derived products, including the feed supplement segment, accounted for $680 million in sales.
